Quality Optics

These binos are fully multi-coated, but the main optical feature is the use of their ED glass components within their lenses.

Eye- relief

The 8×42 Vanguard ED has a superb amount of eye relief and it is approximately 2mm better than the Bushnell binoculars. This is also important except 17.4mm of eye relief on the 8×42 Bushnell legend ultra HD is very good and it is almost enough for everyone who wears glasses. 

So if you need long eye relief, you should not worry about this too much.

Close focus

Mostly bushnell binoculars have an edge end at 6.7ft. Full-size binoculars have a good focus distance but in medium cases, their minimum focus distance is not so good. For vanguard, people who mostly use this binocular to see distant objects the 8.3ft distance should be enough.  

But if the close focus is your main concern like theatre, flowers, butterflies, and even some birds then the closer advertised distance Bushnell binos is something to keep in mind.

But there is also something to keep in mind some binoculars focus to a closer distance than they advertise. I think this is just so they give themselves a margin for blunder.

Field Of View

Another affirmation on a pair of Bushnell legend ultra HD binoculars is that they have a viewing field 13% extra than other 10x binos in their class. 

The Legend Ultra 10×42 has a field of view of approximately 340ft at 1000 yards. If you compare this to other 10x binos that we have reviewed:

The field of view is the biggest and the most important distinction between the two binos. At a distance of 1000 yards, you can get the image through an 8×42 Vanguard endeavor EDis 366ft wide, which decodes to a viewing angle of 7.0 degrees, which is not bad for an 8x binocular. However, with Bushnell Legend Ultra HD 8×42 you may get a 426ft wide image with an angle of 8.1 degrees.  This is no doubt excellent and ranks up there in some of the best wide-angle binos.

A wide viewing field is a benefit in many areas, especially important for those who loathe a target fast,  who need to observe large areas in quest of something, and who need to follow quickly or irregularly moving objects. That`s why many birders and hunters regard this as one of the most critical factors to look for.

One thing that should be considered is that some binos especially cheap ones which use low-quality glass may be conning because the view can be garbled on the edges. However, this probably happens to all the binos I listed above. The brand Celestron Granit has won many awards as the best birding binoculars just because of their superb image quality and their wide viewing field, which is just as wide as the width of Bushnell.

Light Transmission

There have been some independent tests to compare these new binos with the very popular Nikon Monarch Binoculars with the conclusion indicating the Legend Ultra HD Binos have excellent light transmission over all the visible light spectrum. On average, they have 77.25% more light transmission than Nikon over the entire visible light spectrum. 

According to Bushnell, this is achieved by using their new ultra-wide custom band anti-reflective lens coating that gives the most amount of brightness at rime shooting hours, when the warmer colors are prevailing. 

On top of this, their ED prime glass gives sharp, color-true detail, for an excellent HD image.

Ultra Wide Viewing Field

The usage of ED Prime glass elements in their lenses helps to undervalue the color edging that directs to enhanced color resolution and contrast in the image you view. The optics of ultra HD are also fully multi-coated with Bushnell’s ultra wide band coating that ultimately enhances light transmission compared to uncoated or partly coated binos. Phase correction coatings are also used in BaK-4 roof prism models.

The big models are tripod-adaptable and have low-weight magnesium bodies which are water-proof as well as fog-proof. 

Small touches and extra characters of their including a locking diopter and a water-resistant coating on their external lenses, from which you not only get a better view in wet weather conditions, but secure dirt, crud, and oil is less likely to stick on the glass which keeps them clean for longer time.

However, if you are seeing this after the offer has expired or you are not capable of this, then you would go with Bushnell if a wide FOV is important to you or if you want a long eye-relief, the vanguard. It simply depends on your requirements and needs.
